Botox®
Botox, or botulism toxin, is one of the most widely used procedures in derma care today. Botox produces its effect by paralyzing voluntary muscles. Botox was first used over ten years ago in treating diseases of the muscle of the eye. While collagen and other filler substances are used to fill in static lines, that is, the permanent lines in the skin, Botox, by paralyzing the muscle, works in treating lines caused by the movement of muscles in the underlying skin.
For many Laser Derma Care Center patients, Botox has produced extremely satisfying results in reducing lines of the forehead, crow’s feet lines, and the furrows in the forehead and frown lines between the eyes. Recently the use of Botox has been extended for use in relaxing muscle bands in the neck and lines around the mouth.

Chemical Peels
Chemical peels have been used in dermatology and plastic surgery for many decades. These peels can be classified as light peel, medium-depth peels, or deep peels. Light peels are sometimes referred to as the so-called lunchtime peel, in which a patient can be treated by your Laser Derma Care Center medical technician on a lunch break.
Chemical peels are designed to help to reduce wrinkles, sun-damage, blotchy skin and uneven pigmentation, ultimately restoring your skin’s youthful appearance. The type of chemical peel being received will determine the specific aspects of the procedure. Below is a general protocol of a chemical peel procedure.
- Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and if necessary, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the targeted area.
- The chemical peel solution will then be applied. Patients can expect to feel a slight tingling or stinging sensation as the peel is being applied.
- Once the peel solution has set on the skin for the prescribed amount of time, it is washed off with water.
- A soothing ointment will then be applied.
- Your doctor will provide you with aftercare instructions and prescribe a mild pain reliever for any discomfort following the procedure.
- Multiple chemical peels may be necessary depending on the strength of the peel received and the patient’s skin condition.
Depending on the type of peel received will determine the length of recovery time. Some patients can resume normal daily activities immediately following treatment, while other, more intense treatments may require patients to take a week off from work for optimal recovery.
While there are rarely any complications associated with chemical peels, certain risks do exist, including scarring, swelling, infection, cold sore outbreaks and possible changes in skin tone. To help reduce side effects associated with chemical peels it is important to provide your doctor with a complete medical history and follow the instructions provided by your doctor carefully.

Dermal Fillers
Restylane®
Restylane® is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel based on a natural substance that is used for the treatment of wrinkles and lip augmentation. The injected gel gives natural volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. Usually, only one treatment is necessary for optimum results. The result is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement that is gentle to your skin. The effects of Restylane® can last up to one year. Treating wrinkles with Restylane® is fast and safe – and leaves no scars or other traces on the face.
JuvedermTM
Juvederm™ is a smooth gel that is made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance found in your body. By carefully injecting Juvederm™ underneath the skin, your skin can be completely rejuvenated, ultimately adding volume and reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles and folds. It offers patients a safe and effective treatment with little to no down-time. Juvederm™ is less invasive than other fillers and provides patients with dramatic improvement almost immediately following treatment. Results can last up to six months.
Perlane®
Perlane® is an injectable dermal filler used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles. It is a non-animal filler made of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the body’s connective tissue. Because it is resilient, it can readily adapt and mold to the contours of the face. No skin test is needed prior to administering Perlane®. The filler poses no risk of allergic reaction. It is also one of the longest lasting dermal filler because Perlane® contains more hyaluronic molecules.

Microdermabrasion
A very widely used technique to revitalize the skin is Microdermabrasion. This technique uses small particles, usually aluminum oxide or sodium chloride crystals, which are delivered to the skin under positive pressure, causing a superficial sanding of the face.
The effect produced by Microdermabrasion is much more superficial than either laser or dermabrasion, but has the advantages of being essentially painless, and therefore not requiring any anesthesia.
With the care of a Laser Derma Care Center medical professional, Microdermabrasion gives the gratification of producing immediate improved smoothness of the skin with only minimal redness, and not requiring any prolonged recovery. However, as with some of the other techniques described, because the damage to the skin is so superficial, Microdermabrasion does not destroy deep acne scars.

Sclerotherapy (Spider Vein Removal)
The request for Laser Derma Care Center physicians to treat spider veins with sclerotherapy is increasing rapidly. Sclerotherapy is a widely used non-surgical procedure that eliminates spider and varicose veins. Often used as an alternative to surgery, sclerotherapy can reduce or eliminate spider and varicose veins in one to six treatments, depending upon the extent of the problem and patient compliance following the procedure. It has been estimated that as many as 50%-80% of treated veins may be eliminated with each session of sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy should be performed by a trained dermatologist. Using an ultra-fine needle, a salt solution will be injected directly into the targeted vein. Patients may experience mild discomfort and cramping for a couple of minutes as the solution is being injected. The procedure usually takes between 15-30 minutes.
Patients can resume normal daily activities immediately following the procedure. Walking is actually encouraged. Support hosiery will need to be worn to compress the treated vessels. While Tylenol can be taken if needed, it is important to avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory medications for at least 48 hours following treatment. Patients should also avoid taking hot baths, applying hot compresses or being in direct sunlight for at least 48 hours after treatment.
There are certain side effects that patients may experience following sclerotherapy, including itching and raised, red areas around the injection site, which should subside within a few days. Bruising could also occur lasting several days or weeks. While allergic reactions are rarely serious, if you experience sudden swelling in the leg, the formation of ulcers around the injection site or inflammation within five inches of the groin, please contact your dermatologist immediately.

Thermage
Thermage is a new revolutionary cosmetic procedure designed to help you achieve the youthful, healthy looking skin you desire with no recovery time required. Though the results of Thermage treatments only last approximately two years (unlike the five to ten years seen with facelifts), Thermage treatments require no incisions and no downtime. Thermage is a longer lasting skin renewal procedure than cosmetic, injectable fillers, which last only four to six months. The Thermage procedure is the only non-invasive treatment that can deliver tighter, renewed, younger and healthier looking skin with no recovery time required.
